**Pit-Fire–is the oldest known method of firing pottery. Non-fired pots are nestled together in a pit in the ground, a barrel, or a chamber then surrounded by such combustible materials as dried manure, other organic materials such as leaves, metal oxides, salts, and wood or wood shavings to affect the finish look of the pottery.
